For the kids who are now 25 and could never get enough of their parents’ punk music but wish it related to them, I present to you: “Kirby Down B” by Harrison Gordon, the guy who can make you cry and rage with one song about a Wii.
“I’m too young for nostalgia,” the song’s chorus goes. And I feel the same way, but I’m nostalgic as fuck – and Gordon knows it.
“Still obsessing over Pokemon, still drinking fruit punch, not moving on,” the first chorus goes. “My card declined on therapy, because I spent all my money on used DVD’s. I’m tired, but I own all of ‘Teen Titans.’”
As someone who recently started re-watching “Teen Titans,” I say, “Hell yeah! Worth it.”
The song goes from bringing up nice childhood memories to forcing you to remember that life is unavoidably more complicated now.
“I sold my childhood Wii for thirty dollars. Double-A batteries. I’m too young for nostalgia,” another part of the chorus goes.
Anyone who has ever sold their old video game system thinking it would be worth at least $100 and was crushed to find out it was worth about five dollars will relate to this. Nothing says adulthood like offering up one of your favorite possessions to find out it won’t provide enough to get through the end of the day, let alone the end of the week or month.
